De-badging Your Car

posted in Exterior |

When you get your car it will be plastered with badges advertising the make and model of your vehicle, some people take them off because a car will look a whole lot better with a smooth tailgate or body panels without the awful plastic badges. Some cars will have side strips to avoid getting the doors dinted in the event of banging them, these can be removed fairly easy if you know the techniques to do so. De-badging your car can be done in 3 steps.

De-Badging Your Car: Step 1 The first step is to heat the rubber up, this will allow you to peal it off without taking any paint off. The easiest way to do this is to use a heat gun.
If there is any other badges that you want to remove such as the ones on your tailgate. Repeat step 1 in order to safely peal them off. De-Badging Your Car: Step 2
De-Badging Your Car: Step 3 This is where it can get tricky, the industrial glue they use to stick them on has one purpose – to not come off. No solvents would even touch this which is why many people fail. The best way to remove this double sided glue is to use a drill equipped with circular sanding block. You can get sanding blocks that are specifically designed for moving glue, tape and stripes from any body shop.
